About Alpha
I'm Alpha Muluh — author, speaker, and strategic consultant. I spent 23+ years inside behavioral healthcare, including nearly nine years as co-owner of Cadens Health and Wellness, a multi-facility agency in Arizona. Today I run Compassionate Coaching & Consulting, advising behavioral health CEOs on culture transformation and elite talent retention. I founded the Compassionate University leadership community and the Excellence and Impact Foundation. I hold a Master's in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and an LL.M. from Arizona State University. I live in Phoenix, Arizona.
I help behavioral health CEOs increase revenue generation through employee retention. I install compassionate operating systems that begin compounding within weeks — frameworks built inside the work, not adapted from someone else's playbook. My contrarian thesis: compassion in ACTION is one of the highest-margin operational levers in behavioral health, and most other strategies are decoration.
Most leadership consultants come from one of two backgrounds — academic researchers who have studied leadership but never run a company, or generalist consultants who have run engagements but never been in the trenches of real behavioral health operation. I built and operated a multi-facility behavioral health business for nearly a decade. Every framework on this site was built inside the work — not adapted from someone else's playbook. That operator credibility is the difference.
About the Book
Compassion in Action: Transforming Workplace CULTURE & Elite Talent Retention in Behavioral Healthcare is a 28,000-word business book that reframes retention as the highest-margin operational lever in behavioral healthcare — with twelve named frameworks, nine chapters, and a three-part architecture: People, Process, Profit. The central argument is that workforce instability is the single largest unrecognized variable in the cost-of-care equation, and the book gives leaders the operational tools to fix it.
Six audiences: behavioral health CEOs drowning in turnover; COOs hunting for different math; group home and outpatient operators; hospital system executives scaling clinical operations; conference organizers scouting deployable keynote material; and strategic advisors building practices in behavioral health. The frameworks apply most directly to behavioral health, but the math (especially the LPGE:CAT equation) is portable to any high-stakes service business where retention drives margin.
Compassion in Action is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and through major book retailers. The audiobook is in production for 2026 release. For bulk orders of 25+ copies for your organization, conference, or association, visit the Book page or use the inquiry form — bulk pricing, signed copies, custom inserts, and bundled author engagements are available.
Each chapter of the book ends with a deployable team exercise. Beyond that, Compassionate University — the leadership development community I founded — turns the book's nine modules into live courses leaders can run with their teams, with facilitator guides and peer community. The Compassionate University page has full details.
Speaking Engagements
Three signature keynotes, all drawn from Compassion in Action. (1) Compassion in Action: The Operating System Behind Elite Talent Retention. (2) The 7 Magic Words: How Behavioral Health Leaders Reclaim Cognitive Capacity. (3) Decisions That Don't Come Back: How to Stop Being Your Organization's Bottleneck. Each one delivers deployable frameworks, not just inspiration. The Speaking page has detailed descriptions, formats, and audience fit notes for each talk. I can also speak on any specific topics of interest to a potential client.
Most engagements are booked 2 to 10 months in advance. Smaller webinars and virtual sessions can sometimes be arranged with less notice. The earlier the conversation starts, the better — it gives me time to tailor the talk to your audience and event goals.
Speaking fees vary by audience size, event format, location, and customization required. I structure each engagement to match the event's scope and budget. The inquiry form on the Speaking page is the fastest path to a tailored quote — it includes a budget field that helps me prepare a thoughtful response within 2-5 business days.
Consulting Engagements
I work with behavioral health CEOs and senior leadership teams on culture transformation, elite talent retention, and the installation of compassionate operating systems inside their organizations. Engagements typically run 12 months and follow the book's People → Process → Profit architecture: stabilization phase (months 1-3), transformation phase (months 4-8), and legacy & succession phase (months 9-12). I take a small number of clients each year to ensure each engagement gets the depth it requires.
Behavioral health organizations — outpatient clinics, group homes, psychiatric hospitals, multi-site practices — typically at $5M-$25M revenue with significant workforce challenges. I also work with $25M+ hospital system behavioral health divisions, mission-driven nonprofits in the field, and the occasional adjacent healthcare organization where the frameworks apply directly. The best engagements are with CEOs who recognize they've become the bottleneck in their organization and are ready to install systems that compound without them. That said, the revenue range is a guideline, not a gate. For the right fit — mission-aligned organizations with leaders who are serious about the work — I am open to flexible engagement structures and pricing based on what surfaces in the discovery call. The discovery call is the place to have that conversation honestly.
Consulting engagements vary by scope, duration, and the specific components of the engagement — culture and operations transformation, executive coaching, succession planning, leadership development module deployment, and strategic advisory can each be included or excluded depending on what your organization needs. I structure each engagement as a custom proposal. The inquiry form is the fastest path to a 30-minute discovery call to discuss fit and a tailored quote within 2-5 business days.
A typical 12-month engagement includes two CEO strategic calls per month, one leadership team workshop per month, monthly written progress reports, and access to me asynchronously for high-stakes decisions. The engagement is phased — stabilization first, then transformation, then succession-readiness — with measurable outcomes defined at each phase boundary. Most engagements include some combination of executive coaching for the CEO, leadership team development, and a clear succession-or-scaling plan as the year unfolds.
Compassionate University
Compassionate University is the leadership development community I founded — a place where the nine modules of Compassion in Action become live courses, group coaching cohorts, and a network of behavioral health leaders practicing the same disciplines. Members get access to monthly cohort courses, framework deep-dives, deployable tools and templates, recordings of past sessions, and a peer community of leaders navigating the same challenges. It's hosted on Skool at skool.com/compassionate-university-7366.
Three audiences: behavioral health leaders ready to apply the book's frameworks with peer support; consultants and advisors who want deeper context to advise their clients; and emerging leaders being developed by their CEOs as part of succession planning. If you're reading the book and want a community of leaders working the same disciplines alongside you, this is the place.
No. The community is designed to be accessible whether you've read the book, are reading it currently, or haven't started yet. Many members join Compassionate University specifically because the live courses and peer community help them get more out of the book than reading it alone. That said, the book and the community work best together — readers who join the community report deeper application of the frameworks than readers who read in isolation.
Working With Alpha Generally
Start with the book. Whether you eventually engage me as a consultant, book me for your event, or simply apply the frameworks yourself, the book is the foundation everything else is built on. If after reading you want to bring the work into your organization, the inquiry form will route you to the right conversation — speaking, consulting, or Compassionate University. There's no wrong door.
Use the inquiry forms on the Speaking, Consulting, or Contact pages — they're routed directly to me and trigger a personal response within 2-5 business days. For media inquiries, podcast invitations, partnership questions, or anything outside the standard categories, the Contact page form has an inquiry-type selector that routes to the right path. I personally respond to every inquiry within 2-5 business days. Email and LinkedIn are also options, listed in the site footer.
Occasionally. I reserve a small portion of my time each year for pro bono and reduced-fee engagements with mission-aligned nonprofits, advocacy organizations, and emerging behavioral health leaders who would otherwise lack access to this kind of consulting support. If your organization's mission aligns and budget is a barrier, mention it in the inquiry form. I take these conversations seriously and respond honestly about fit and feasibility.
